Web Design

Prerequisites: Basic Computer Skills



Full Class Description:
The class will begin by having the students choose from a selection of templates to work on. This template will become the format for the pages the students will create. Over the next weeks the students will make changes to the template to make them unique. This will involve using basic Photoshop functions. Next the students will add content to the templates using Photoshop and some basic html commands. The final section of the class will focus on uploading the sites using the Cute FTP program. Students will learn to download the templates from various sites, choose hosting that is cost effective and understand the basic tenets of the Web. Upon completion of the class students will have proficiencies in web navigation and concepts such as bandwidth, uploading, downloading, and web standards. Students will also gain a rudimentary understanding of HTML and some general knowledge of databases and CSS. Students will learn some low level graphics techniques; have an understanding of image file types (.jpg, .gif) and know some general images properties like pixels and file size.

Students in this class will prepare an entry for the national ICD web site design contest.
